HamJam: Endless Runner

Players dodge falling utensils, jump over toaster traps, and collect golden seeds and cheese wedges to upgrade speed boosts, magnet power-ups, and custom hamster costumes.

Featuring procedurally generated 3D tracks with zero GC object pooling, HamJam provides smooth, latency-free swipe and tilt controls optimized for mobile touchscreens.

3D Environment

Procedurally generated 3D environments with dynamic obstacle and item spawning.

Swipe Controls

Highly responsive swipe-to-dodge and jump controls tuned for mobile touchscreens.

Currency System

Interactive currency system and multiplier streaks for highscore tracking.

Object Pooling

Pre-allocated segment pooling deactivating and repositioning runner tracks seamlessly.

TECHNICAL R&D

Architectural Challenges & Engineered Solutions

How our team bypassed complex bottlenecks to achieve smooth frame execution and frictionless player retention.

THE CHALLENGE

Dynamic Chaser Speed Mismatch

As the player runs further, their speed dynamically scales up (up to 50f). In early builds, the chasing bear's catch speed was hardcoded at 15f. This caused a game-breaking bug where the bear could never catch up to catch the player during a game-over or exhaustion sequence.

CUBESTAX SOLUTION

Custom Architecture Implementation

Built a decoupled Model-View-Controller architecture with cached transform loops and compressed mesh streams to eliminate CPU bottlenecking.

THE CHALLENGE

Cross-Platform Haptic Permission Failures

Implementing clean mobile haptics without adding heavy external asset-store packages. Furthermore, Unity builds often excluded the VIBRATE permission in the compiled Android manifest because haptics were called through native Java reflections (AndroidJavaObject) instead of standard APIs.

CUBESTAX SOLUTION

Custom Architecture Implementation

Engineered responsive input managers and a custom asset loading pipeline that keeps startup loading times under 3 seconds.
